About Square Deal
Square Deal helps you understand a service quote before you sign it: what each line means, which fees are normal, what a complete quote should include, and what a fair price range looks like. It’s free to use, and we never sell your information.
Who’s behind it
Square Deal is run by Jeff, a homeowner and car owner who got tired of not knowing what was on his quotes. It’s a small, independent site. We aren’t owned by a contractor network, a lead marketplace or any company whose prices we describe.
How our pages are made
- Every figure cites its sources. Price ranges come from at least two independent published sources, and every fee and figure lists its sources at the bottom of the page, with the date we last checked them. Where sources don’t agree on a typical price, we estimate one and label it as our estimate.
- AI helps, and people check it. We use AI tools to research and draft. Every figure is checked against its sources, and nothing goes live until Jeff has reviewed and approved it.
- Expert review, when we can get it. When someone who works in a trade reviews a page, the page says who reviewed it. Pages without an expert reviewer say “Sourced and verified” instead.
- Neutral by design. Most contractors and shops price fairly. We explain what’s on a quote and what to ask about; we don’t accuse anyone.
Prices on this site are estimates, not quotes. Always get written quotes from licensed, insured pros.
